Located in Rauma is a rare treasure. At Sammallahtimäki, on a site which once formed the coastline, lie nearly forty burial cairns built as the resting place for the ancestors of the inhabitants of Satakunta.
In 1999, the site was nominated to UNESCO’s World Heritage List, as it the most representative site of the Western Bronze Culture in Scandinavia. A number of the burial cairns have their own names and stories. The best-known burial cairn, Kirkonlaattia (“Church Floor”), is said to have been built by goblins, no less.
